EXPERIENCE JAPANESE SUMMER IN FUJITAYA: Tanabata Decorations Exhibition

At FUJITAYA, we want to offer you a little corner where you can experience the seasons of Japan, without leaving Mexico!

Therefore, during the month of July, we will be displaying traditional Tanabata (Star Festival) decorations in our lobby.

🌌 Tanabata: A Japanese tradition of wishing upon the stars

Tanabata is a traditional Japanese celebration that takes place every year on July 7. It is based on an ancient love legend between Orihime (the weaver princess) and Hikoboshi (the star shepherd), who can only meet once a year, crossing the Milky Way.

On this day, people write their wishes on strips of colorful paper called tanzaku and hang them from bamboo branches. Phrases like "May my dreams come true" or "May my family be healthy and happy" become small messages that rise into the night sky.

🎋 Bamboo and Tanabata-style decorations from Sendai are displayed in the FUJITAYA lobby.

Throughout the month of July, in the FUJITAYA lobby, there will be a real bamboo branch where you can hang your own tanzaku with a wish. Additionally, there will be handmade decorations made by our team , inspired by Sendai's famous Tanabata Festival , one of the largest and most colorful in Japan.

🎊 What are Sendai Tanabata decorations?

Every August, Sendai City (Miyagi Prefecture) celebrates one of Japan's three major Tanabata festivals . The streets are filled with large, decorated paper balls (similar to piñatas) and long, hanging strips of paper called fukinagashi , creating a vibrant, festive atmosphere.

At FUJITAYA, we've recreated this special atmosphere with colorful, carefully crafted decorations. The fukinagashi sway gently in the wind, filling the space with a sense of freshness and peace .

📝 Write your wish and connect with an ancient tradition

You don't have to be a hotel guest to participate. If you live nearby or are passing through, we invite you to write your wish and hang it on the bamboo. A moment of connection with the stars can become a beautiful summer memory.

Exhibition available : July 1-31, 2025
